HTML Basics
The following video is used by the Digital Schoolhouse to teach pupils about basic coding and help explain that a web browser translates html code into something that we (humans) can recognise.

Step by step videos
Please also find enclosed a series of step-by-step videos to support both teachers and pupils with creating web pages using HTML code rather than a web editor. The first video is particularly useful as it demonstrates how to create a shortcut to the Magnifying Glass application available on the Windows XP operating system. The value of this tool is that it enables pupils at the back of the class to read the code without any effort!

Video 1: Creating a Magnifying Glass

*** There are some great FREE step-by-step guides available from the W3C Schools and the Hacasaurus websites ***

HTML Videos 2 - 20: Creating a single file web page

Video 20: Creating a website with three interconnecting web pages.

Video 21: Connecting another file e.g. Scratch, to a web page.

We would recommend that you follow up any HTML programming with a short scheme of work on creating webpages with a web editor or using a standard office tool e.g. Microsoft Word, to highlight to the pupils what a web editor does and what are the benefits of using one.
